You Just Have to Clap for Your Damn Self

The one thing I've learned in this journey is that you really have to celebrate every victory no matter how small. I've also learned that you have to clap for your damn self. We wait for people to recognize us and celebrate us. In reality, we are seeking validation from outside of ourselves. For example, I've asked so many of my friends and family to not only read but to subscribe to my blog. Quite a few have, but many haven't. I am so grateful to those that take the time to not only read my posts but provide feedback and encouragement to continue.
I have to be honest, my feelings were hurt in the beginning. I was thinking many of these people have businesses that I've supported or promoted and they can't even read and subscribe to my blog? What the hell? After a little more thought, I realized I was seeking unnecessary validation that I don't really need. I am very proud of myself. I've walked a journey that would have broken many of the people I was seeking approval from. Every post to me is a victory that deserves to be celebrated.
Celebrating yourself is definitely something I am teaching Aryn. She once again made the principal's honor roll. She said her friends didn't congratulate her. I told her that she didn't need them to and stop looking for her friend's approval and validation. I reminded her of just how awesome she was and told her to never forget it. Once you realize there won't always be someone cheering you on from the sidelines that you must always be your own biggest fan, things become easier.
I've also come to realize that you never know who is watching you. You never know who you are inspiring. You may also never know who is silently cheering you on. What I do know is I will continue to push forward, celebrate, and cheer for myself, which is basically what I've been doing for others for years. I'm always going to be the person who pushes, celebrates, and encourages others. The only thing to change is that now I'm doing it for myself too.
